A Roman city (important finds from the period are kept at the Civic Museum), Treviso enjoyed great prosperity
in Medieval times (in the thirteenth century it was one of the main Italian centres of Provencal culture), also
thriving in subsequent periods.
The town is characterised by the numerous frescoed houses found in the entire old centre, which probably
make Treviso the most important northern city in terms of outdoor decorations.
The Treviso region is the birthplace of Cima da Conegliano, Giorgione and Antonio Canova; Palladio has
worked here, planning and building some of his most important examples of Venetian Villas, true masterpieces
of architecture of all times.
But the area does not only vaunt history and architecture; it also offers uncontaminated nature and beautiful
landscapes in a territory where, within a few kilometres, the foothills of the Alps meet the Venetian lagoon.
Particularly rich in hotel accommodations and facilities suited to any kind of public, the vast territory may be
visited in every season of the year, offering its mixture of history and nature in changing and always fascinating
scenarios.
The widespread presence of water has always made this territory very fertile, and it is famous for its farming,
including vineyards (the Prosecco, the most precious variety being the Cartizze D.O.C. of Conegliano and
Valdobbiano, is very appreciated) and characteristic vegetables as red chicory and asparagus.
Life still proceeds at human rhythms, making a sojourn in this area very pleasant. We are thinking of Asolo
and Maser, Castelfranco and Treviso, and how the scenic landscapes of these areas make an ideal setting for
the great manifestations of human art.
The province vaunts other attractions, scattered along an itinerary which goes from the old city centres of
Ceneda and Serravalle (the present Vittorio Veneto) to the Rotonda di Badoere, from Roncade and Oderzo to
Portobuffolé...
Today Treviso is internationally known first and foremost due to the acumen of its entrepreneurs, the
industriousness of its people, the "Venetian model" which has deep and solid roots here, and which has
resulted in the creation of small and large businesses everywhere in the area. This is where world-famous
brands have been created, starting almost from zero (Benetton, Stefanel, Lotto, Diadora, Nordica ...).
